how to throw a ridiculously fun virtual Sales Kickoff

Let’s Face It: A Virtual SKO is different.

But that might be a good thing.

By this point, everything has transitioned to virtual. You’re a work from home pro! But an online sales kickoff? This is new…

Fortunately, I’m here to show you that virtual teams can still have an amazingly awesome remote SKO, where everyone feels connected and inspired (all from the comfort of their own computers).

We’ve boiled it down to a fail-proof party formula that you can apply for any company (50-500+ people) which we call Party in a Box.

Long story short: you’ll see how this remote team event will:

  • engage your staff
  • boost morale
  • ensure that you’re office royalty 😉

How to Structure a Virtual Sales Kickoff Event

Instead of trying to guess one event that everyone will love (which isn’t likely)…

…design a festival-style itinerary with guaranteed fun happening in multiple rooms.

That way, your team can “choose their own adventure.”

This is the perfect way to include your whole company (for groups of 50-250+), and ensure everyone has a great time.

Example Structure:

  • 15 min – Opening Words (CEO, Slideshow, Awards, etc.)
  • 30 min – Session 1 (with multiple Theme Rooms)
  • 35 min – Executive Keynote
  • 30 min – Session 2 (with multiple Theme Rooms)
  • 30 min – Closing Words

For our Party in a Box, we’ll create a dedicated webpage that has Zoom links to each Theme Room.

All your team does it click “Join” on whichever theme room speaks to them!

Each room is led by a dedicated virtual events host, who prioritizes:

  • team engagement
  • psychological safety
  • and having fun!

It’s a no-brainer: we’ll work with you to ensure an unforgettable, engaging virtual SKO for your team!

Meet Monica

Monica is the office manager at Double Fine games (part of Xbox Game Studios).

She poured her heart into organizing an awesome 20th anniversary party for her team…

It was going to be an epic restaurant buyout, at one of San Francisco’s most storied Mexican restaurants (the people that created the Tommy’s Margarita).

And then? COVID hit.

Instead of cancelling outright, she decided to throw a company-wide virtual party. She called on Wild SF to replace their planned in-person event.

It was a super fun night (margaritas still made an appearance) with karaoke and a tropical vacation.

“Wes worked with us to make a memorable experience in lieu of our regular party!

Everyone had an incredible time, so much so that we are hiring Wild SF to host our virtual holiday party in December.

I highly recommend this company to anyone who wants to create a unique and entertaining virtual experience for their employees!”

SECRET #1

What Do Employees Really Want in a Virtual Sales Kickoff?

Answer: Connection

A big event with motivational speakers, recaps from execs, and flashy production quality are all nice, but…

…what remote workers really want is meaningful team connection.

If your goal is to “wow” your virtual team with a remote team building event, create an event that prioritizes bonding.

How do you do that?

It requires a few things:

  1. A fully-structured event (with a clear timeline)
  2. Generous use of facilitated breakout groups (plenty of small group chats)
  3. Masterful facilitation (important for psychological safety of your team)

I really enjoyed being weird (aka myself) with my new coworkers. This was the perfect ice breaker and a great way to connect with everyone in the company!”

Seeing everyone laugh and getting to meet with different team members was so much fun!”

I loved seeing everyone’s face (and not just Slack messages)

I appreciated being able to really connect with new team members during this time!”

(Actual quotes, from actual employees who joined a Kabloom by Wild SF party)

Let’s face it: you are brilliant in your field…

…and true brilliance lies in knowing when to outsource.

Instead of MacGyvering a virtual event this year, bring in the pros.
