The North Beach tour unfolds the story of the Beatnik poets, Italian fishermen, drag queens, artists, gold diggers, Latin jazz stars and all those who have called Little Italy home. You’ll see the classic pizzerias, cafés, radical bookstores, public parks, statues and churches that helped define one of America’s most beloved neighborhoods.
The guide brings the Beats to life with poetry readings outside of City Lights Bookstore. We’ll learn about the Transamerica Pyramid, Francis Ford Coppola, the famous Green Street Mortuary marching band, sample Tony’s world-famous pizza, and see Washington Square, with epic views of Coit Tower and Saints Peter and Paul’s cathedral.
